The most important part of your adoption plan
The most important part of your adoption plan
Recently in speaking to birth mother C, she made a statement that really stuck with me. She said, "Marilu, I just want to be heard. I am really specific about my adoption plan and I want everyone involved to really listen to me."
If you look up the meaning of hearing vs. listening in the dictionary, you will find that hearing simply happens and listening actually processes meaning from words and sentences. Making an adoption plan for your child requires a lot of listening on the side of the person that is helping and supporting you through the process so they truly understand your feelings. We believe that the most important part of your adoption plan is the first step—that is listening to you.
Melanie and I really go out of our way to listen to any birth mother that chooses to work with us. We want to know every way that we can help you with your situation. Do you need financial help to get you through the process? In terms of living expenses, do you need help with housing, utilities , transportation, groceries, finding a doctor that you feel comfortable with and supports your choice to place your child for adoption? Maybe you need counseling or just the opportunity to talk with another woman who has walked this road.
When you reach out to us, we won't just hear you, we will listen to you. Giving you all the support you need, being at the hospital with you if you like, helping you find the right adoptive family for you. That's what we do! We will meet your needs to the best of our ability and really listen to what you have to say. We feel it is really important that we understand what your short term and long term expectations are so that the outcome is what you want it to be. We want to walk this path with you, listening to what you have to say throughout the process. It won’t be easy, but you will feel heard and understood.
