The Story Of Us

We are  high school sweethearts  and dated throughout college until we married in 2011.

After getting married, we decided to move to Fort Worth, Texas, and then to the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, so Shane could start his career. We cherished our time exploring different states and cultures but decided to move closer to home before we started a family. 

Our struggle with years of infertility brought us closer and thankfully led us to discover how adoption would be the perfect way to build our family. We adopted our son, Shepard, and our family has treasured his open adoption as we learn and continue to grow together with his birth mother.

Meet Bethany by Shane

Bethany’s first quality everyone notices about her is her giant smile. 

Her smile is in harmony with the way she approaches everyday as a wife, mom, and elementary teacher in our small town. 

I always knew Bethany would be an incredible mother. It has been a fantastic experience to see her utilize her phenomenal teaching skills inside our home to nurture Shepard, and I know she will continue to do the same as our family grows. 

Bethany keeps me on track and in line with an organized but relaxed style and is always up for a new challenge. She also has an unbelievable knack for interior design and has decorated our entire home to be warm and welcoming. One of the things I love most about Bethany is her ability to come from “left-field” with a joke or one-liner to make a group laugh hysterically.

Shane is determined, hardworking, and well-known for being the life of the party. He has the unique ability to make everyone around him laugh with his hilarious antics, but he also has the sweetest heart. 

He loves staying busy at home and with his job as Director of Business Development for a large manufacturing company. 

If Shane’s not doing something handy around the house or being the master of the kitchen, I know I can find him and Shepard working on Legos or projects in our garage. He constantly takes Shepard on adventures and values our time together as a family. I have to keep an eye on them because they love to mastermind pranks or get into some shenanigans.

Hi! I’m Shepard. My favorite things to do are running everywhere as fast as possible, playing with cars, building Legos with my daddy, and going to the local park next to my house. I’m full of energy and make people around me laugh with my silly faces, contagious smile, and amazing sound effects. I have so many amazing cousins and friends, and I know my new sibling will fit right in with our fun adventures.

I can’t wait to be a big brother and talk about it all the time!

Home Sweet Home

we absolutely adore our home and charming small town in southeastern ohio

Over the years, we have spent countless hours making our house into the home we love today. Inside our home is a cozy place where lots of memories are made. Our family and friends love coming to our home for birthday parties, Christmas morning brunch, and playdates. Bethany’s elementary school, community playground, and local library are just a quick walk from our house. We cannot wait to take our children to explore what our beautiful and tight-knit community has to offer. We cherish our walks downtown to grab dinner and then spend time exploring our town’s beautiful Ohio River Trail. Our family loves that we can drive a couple of hours to visit larger cities to explore their zoos and children’s museums. We always look forward to planning our next road trip to share diverse experiences with Shepard and our friends.

We are humbled and extremely thankful that you have taken the time to learn more about us, our friends and family, and our dreams of growing our family.

We’ve been preparing our hearts and home for many years for another beautiful child to become part of our family. We imagine the future with our children as one with many adventures, tons of laughter, many opportunities to grow, and endless treasured memories created. Adoption has already been a beautiful journey for our family as we learn and grow with Shepard and his birth mother.
